The Hampton Roads Speed Team was started by coach Bob Hines in 1980.  Kevin Pace joined Bob as an assistant in 1998 and in 2004, Kevin took the reigns of the club to continue a tradition of teaching values, sportsmanship and discipline. An electronics instructor by trade, Kevin has been involved in competitive speed skating since age 12, competing in each division Freshman through Master since 1978.   Kevin holds a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Education.

In the 80’s, speed skating was a pretty big sport locally, with over 500 local skaters on many different teams, however, speed skating now suffers from lack of  public awareness.  Most people are not aware that there is such a thing as Roller Speed Skating locally and even fewer probably realize that the latest Olympic Champion Ice speed skaters like Joey Cheek and Apollo Ono got their start on inline speed skates.

The Hampton Roads Speed Team offers an opportunity to the general public to get involved in roller-sports training and see the difference it can make in your life.  We offer a supervised, family environment that teaches values to athletes while helping them achieve their dreams.  We also offer much more, because not only can the kids become speed skaters, but Mom and Dad can get into th e act as well.  Many of our current competitive skaters are part of a family of speed skaters!  Why should Mom and Dad stand on the sidelines watching their kids get all the exercise and have all the fun?
